Every Minute of Rome was Beautiful!

The final day did not disappoint and became one of our best days of the trip.  After leaving the cruise ship very early, we arrived back in Rome and waited for our room to be ready at the magnificent Royal Splendide Hotel.  We enjoyed a leisurely proper breakfast overlooking the Borghese Gardens.  We have no idea why, but when we came back down to reception desk, we were personally guided to a bank of private elevators and escorted to the most spectacular master suite, complete with the most beautiful marble bathroom (had a tub like a small pool), a fireplace and a walk-in closet.   After refreshing ourselves and getting settled in, and looking at all the special touches of our unexplained upgrade, we went back out to one of the most romantic cities in Europe, Rome.  Filled with people enjoying their day, incredible Italian food, gelato (oh my goodness so good) limoncello, striking clothing lines, and well-known designer showcases like Vera Wang’s wedding dresses.  Europe is so unique to the rest of the world.  Filled with incredible history most of us Americans don’t really understand, unless you have laid eyes on the many landmarks.    But what stands out and lives in my heart is the way people live their lives.  Yes, they all have jobs, families to tend to and problems we don’t see, but they also know how to take lots of moments to just enjoy the simple things in life.  A great pastry, water with bubbles, an amazing cappuccino, long dinners with beautiful entertainment, leisurely walking through town a great appreciation of family and weekly get together on Sunday afternoons.  I ponder every single time I come back from Europe, our fifth trip to date, and blessed that we could even partake in this adventure as much as we have.  We have learned to enjoy those moments in life and be more intentional.  This was one romantic, adventurous, surreal trip and we can’t wait to start planning the next.  Until then…Bonjourno!
